Updated description of set of German World War I maps in scale 1:25000 Russischen karte des Westlichen Grenzgebiets (Russian map of the western border area). Maps were prepared using Russian verst maps. Interesting that this set includes subsets of maps in scale 1:25000 Karte der 8 Armee and Karte der 10 Armee (Map of 8-th and 10-th Armies). These armies were dislocated in present Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus when maps from set Russischen karte des Westlichen Grenzgebiets were produced. New maps supplemented collections of 1-verst (1:42000) maps and 2-verst (1:84000) maps of Russian empire (period 1890-1917, territories of Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Finland), descriptions updated. We started new chapter MAPS AND PLANS SHOWING HANDLING OF TERRITORIES IN LITHUANIA where we are introducing in set of plans in scale 1:5000 prepared and published by state’s land-surveyors in 1798-1860. Set covers territories of SW Lithuania – Užnemunė (Suvalkija, Sūduva) and territories of NE Poland (Suwalszczyzna).

Chapter of LATVIAN (1918-1940) MAPS was supplemented by description of famous Latvia Road map (Latvias celu karte), scale 1:200000 published by department of roads and highways in 1940. Latvia Road map as newest material was used by German topographers during WWII to revise names of populated places. |
